{"id":183,"date":"2020-03-30T10:50:32","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T09:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/?page_id=183"},"modified":"2020-04-04T10:07:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-04T09:07:41","slug":"bellringing-videos","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/bellringing-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"Bellringing Videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the Internet (particularly on YouTube), you&#8217;ll find hundreds of hours of videos about bell ringing.\u00a0 At a time when we can&#8217;t get our twice-weekly &#8220;fix&#8221; ourselves, here&#8217;s a chance to look at some:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLmJrg8h0wm_oRet6n3DlCIrCuPa_yBk1A\">CCCBR Compendium<\/a><br \/>\nThe Central Council of Church Bell Ringers (that&#8217;s a title which rolls easily off the tongue!) has put together a compilation of videos.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a huge wide variety of things, ranging from an hour or so (I found &#8220;Bells of Cambridge&#8221; fascinating) to several that last just a minute or so.\u00a0 As a MiniBell founder, I went straight to the casting of the enormous Olympic bell!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLmJrg8h0wm_rmMia9erEhxiNVeH0D8jJy\">Oddities and Wonders of Bellringing<\/a><br \/>\nThe CCCBR has done a second compilation.\u00a0 No long videos here (there&#8217;s one 12 minute one).\u00a0 No. 19 &#8211; Cornish handbells ringers pleased me.\u00a0 An interesting take on call changes and &#8220;lapping&#8221; (but we&#8217;ll not do it like that at Kildwick without some <em><strong>really<\/strong> <\/em>good padding on the floor!)\u00a0 Our young ringers need to look at No. 8 too!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z9rQHrjrCrc\">Stedman Caters<\/a> (7 min)<br \/>\nHandbell lapping is a Victorian parlour game.\u00a0 The ringers sit in a curved line and pass the bells between them, placing them on each other&#8217;s laps.\u00a0 This is as impressive an example as I have seen.\u00a0 Watch the lady on the right.\u00a0 She never lets go of the bell at the end &#8211; that&#8217;s because &#8220;Caters&#8221; only involves eleven bells and the twelvth stays at the back, covering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"title style-scope ytd-video-primary-info-renderer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4IJGSdn6KNk&amp;t=9s\">Bell Ringing: It&#8217;s Harder Than It Looks<\/a> (15 min)<br \/>\nThere are several documentaries about learning to ring.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve chosen this one because it is local to Kildwick.\u00a0 Ant Smith learns to handle a bell in the tower at Silsden before moving on to ring at Bradford Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RW2Vwq6qco0\">How to make a bell<\/a> (10 min)<br \/>\nPersonally, I find the commentary to this rather annoying!\u00a0 However, it does explain the process of bell casting very well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=alUwnVLerMc&amp;t=18s\">Kildwick MiniRingers<\/a> (2 min)<br \/>\nCouldn&#8217;t finish without this!\u00a0 A rather dated video of the first ever MiniRingers, ringing Plain Hunt on the mat.\u00a0 This was filmed in December 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the Internet (particularly on YouTube), you&#8217;ll find hundreds of hours of videos about bell ringing.\u00a0 At a time when we can&#8217;t get our twice-weekly &#8220;fix&#8221; ourselves, here&#8217;s a chance to look at some: CCCBR Compendium The Central Council of &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/bellringing-videos\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-183","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/183","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=183"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/183\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":196,"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/183\/revisions\/196"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=183"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
