{"id":7,"date":"2019-09-03T16:27:14","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T15:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/?page_id=7"},"modified":"2020-07-17T10:11:25","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T09:11:25","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/home\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Thursday practices<\/h1>\n<p>Thursday online practices are still going strong!\u00a0 We generally have between six and eight ringers on board &#8211; with ages ranging from a youthful 9 yrs up to a decrepit 71.<\/p>\n<p>Ringing often seems to go better when the aforesaid decrepit tower captain sits on the sidelines and &#8220;supervises&#8221;, rather than actually ringing a bell!<\/p>\n<p>The online RingingRoom is a different experience from ringing a real bell in a real tower.\u00a0 A lot of the visual and tactile &#8220;clues&#8221; are missing.\u00a0 Not only that, but ringers need to cope with the technology.\u00a0 As well as the Ringing Room software, we need to run something like Zoom simultaneously so that we can chat as well as ring.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not for everyone!<\/p>\n<p>We are not achieving world-notable performances.\u00a0 (Last week, a group of far cleverer ringers than us rang the first ever peal on RingingRoom!) but we are thrilled with what we can achieve.<\/p>\n<p>A unique positive of RingingRoom is that it allows ringers from anywhere in the world to join in the ringing, so while six of our normal band are Kildwick-based, one comes from Otley and another all the way from Deepest Wales!\u00a0 When (and if) these sessions are replaced by normal ringing, Sara from Wales will, again, be cut off from all ringing activity.\u00a0 That&#8217;ll be a sad day.\u00a0 Till that happens, we&#8217;ll soldier on!<\/p>\n<h1>A world first?<\/h1>\n<p>Probably not&#8230;\u00a0 But I bet you&#8217;ve not seen a Yorkshire Tail End that&#8217;s less than 70mm long!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-246 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails3-286x300.jpg\" alt=\"Yorkshire Tail\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails3-286x300.jpg 286w, https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails3-768x806.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails3.jpg 953w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>For those of you who don&#8217;t know, a Yorkshire tail-end has an extra fluffy bit on the end whereas most normal ropes are simply doubled back on themselves.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-234\" src=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Winder-19-300x155.jpg\" alt=\"Finished Rope\" width=\"300\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Winder-19-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Winder-19.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m making mini-ropes on my new toy (a ropewalk) and, as we have Yorkshire tails on our bells, I really needed to do this!\u00a0 If we&#8217;re being techie, both the sally and the tail end should be trimmed down a bit more &#8211; but at least they are less hairy than they were when we started:\u00a0 (See the <a href=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/a-wool-winder\/\">WoolWinder page<\/a> for a little more)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-247\" src=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails2.jpg\" alt=\"On the ropewalk\" width=\"1000\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails2-300x64.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails2-768x163.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yorkshire-Tails2-940x198.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>Update on the ringing<\/h1>\n<p>We started with just five.\u00a0 Our Thursday practices seem to be going well; there is now a regular core of seven of us &#8211; and the youngest is doing every bit as well as the oldest!
