That\u2019s about 1,776 bongs per bell \u2013 and 888 bangs of the clapper on each side of the bell.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>No wonder the poor bells get dented!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kildwickringers.org.uk\/index.php\/refurbishing-work\/\">Return to the Bell Restoration page<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>From the bell hanger\u2019s report:<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>None of the bells has ever been turned to present new faces to the blows of their clappers.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The bells are now indented at their current strike points in varying degrees, the worst worn being the tenor and fourth, wear to those two bells being approximately 8% of total thickness.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>10% wear is generally accepted as the wise maximum at which point remedial action is required and it follows that such action will soon be needed.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>100 years of ringing out over Kildwick has taken its toll.
