Some history
The bells were last inspected in 2016 by the Loughborough foundry which cast our bells in 1914. That report recommended a limited schedule of work but as the church was (we thought) about to embark on a major refurbishment, this work was shelved until it could be incorporated into the Grand Scheme.
We try to arrange an inspection every five years so another inspection was clearly overdue. We chose an independent bell hanger who has a good reputation. Nicholson’s Engineering has workshops in Bridport on the south coat of Dorset.
Andrew Nicholson’s thorough report highlighted several matters that need to be dealt with if the bells are to continue to be rung. We had already agreed that new ropes were becoming necessary but the loose clappers were actually damaging the bells. It was decided to takes action. You’ll read more detail elswewhere on this site
